One of the most dangerous things that the demon of envy does is that it does not stop at weakening the body or affecting one’s livelihood and relationships. Rather, it creeps into the soul to wage war from within. It begins by planting fear and anxiety, making you feel hopeless, weakening your self-confidence, and even attempting to make you doubt Allah’s ability to heal you. This is why many people afflicted by the evil of envy live in a state of psychological weakness, unable to face life’s situations with strength or confront challenges with steadfastness.
And here arises the important question: How can you resist this hidden psychological enemy?
First: Understanding His Method of Warfare
Envy, at its core, is like an arrow shot from the heart of the envier through his eye. If it strikes a heart heedless of the remembrance of Allah, it wounds it. The devil then exploits this wound to magnify its psychological effects. Thus, the afflicted person may suddenly feel a tightness in the chest, an inexplicable fear, a weakening of determination, or a reluctance to face people.
Allah the Exalted says:
“And indeed, those who disbelieve would almost make you slip with their eyes when they hear the reminder, and they say, ‘Indeed, he is mad.’” [Al-Qalam: 51].
This is clear evidence that the effect of the evil eye and envy is real, to the extent that it nearly affected the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Seek refuge with Allah from the evil eye, for indeed it is real.” [Narrated by Ibn Mājah and authenticated by Al-Albānī].
Secondly: Building Mental Strength Gradually to Overcome Envy
One of the common mistakes people make is that they want to get rid of the effects of envy all at once. This often leads to failure and increased frustration. The correct path, however, is gradual progress:
Start with the easy situations that you can handle. Do not try to face the hardest situations right away; instead, move step by step. Every small situation you overcome is an inner victory that strengthens your heart.
This is the meaning of spiritual striving that Allah Almighty mentioned:
“And those who strive for Us – We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good.” [Al-‘Ankabut: 69]
Thus, striving against yourself in confronting envy step by step is the way to be freed from it completely, without return.

Third: Flexibility and Avoiding Confrontation
The demon of envy seeks to push you into helplessness and collision with reality so that you fail. Therefore, be wise:
Do not face every situation with anger or agitation. Deal with difficulties with flexibility, and take the time needed to adapt to them. Know that everything comes at its proper time, so do not rush, for haste is from Satan.
Learn to postpone some confrontations until your inner strength grows stronger.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“The strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, while there is good in both. Be eager for what benefits you, seek the help of Allah, and do not be helpless.” [Reported by Muslim]
Thus, being keen on what benefits you, seeking Allah’s help, and avoiding helplessness are the keys to building inner strength in facing any psychological battle.
Fourth: Strengthening the Heart with Faith and Remembrance
The ultimate solution is to possess a heart strengthened by faith, for when the heart is filled with certainty, Satan finds no way into it. Some practical means to achieve this are:
Reliance on Allah (Tawakkul): Listen to lessons about trusting Allah until you learn how to entrust all your affairs to Him, and become certain that whatever befalls you was never meant to miss you. Allah Almighty said:
“And whoever relies upon Allah – then He is sufficient for him.” [At-Talaq: 3]
Listening to lessons about contentment and having good expectations of Allah: This nurtures tranquility and peace within you in the face of whatever happens to you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Wondrous is the affair of the believer, for there is good for him in every matter. If something good happens to him, he is grateful and that is good for him; and if something harmful befalls him, he is patient and that is good for him.” [Reported by Muslim]
Consistency in daily remembrances (Adhkar): They are a strong fortress against the whispers of Satan, such as the morning and evening remembrances and the supplications before sleep. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“The example of the one who remembers his Lord and the one who does not remember his Lord is like the example of the living and the dead.” [Reported by Al-Bukhari]
The Qur’an as a cure: Its recitation and listening purify and reassure the soul. Allah Almighty said:
“Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts find rest.” [Ar-Ra’d: 28]
And also, seeking healing through it with the verses that affect Satan in your body until you are freed from him.
Fifth: Patience as a Long-Term Weapon
This illness may last for a long time, and its effects may continue for years. But do not focus on the length of the road; instead, look at the reward and the strength being built within you with every day that you remain patient.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Know that victory comes with patience, relief comes with hardship, and indeed with difficulty comes ease.” [Reported by Ahmad and authenticated by Al-Albani]
Patience here is not weakness; rather, it is the greatest strength, because it deprives Satan of achieving his goal of weakening you.
And always remember that you are stronger than him if you rely on Allah, for He is the All-Powerful, and He will never let your effort go to waste if you remain patient and persistent.
Conclusion
The demon of envy wages a psychological battle against you to break your heart and weaken your certainty. It tries to plant within you feelings of helplessness and despair, convincing you that you cannot overcome what you are suffering. Yet in reality, it has no power over your heart as long as you hold firmly to your Lord.
Resistance begins with small steps, gradually facing the situations you fear. Do not surrender from the beginning; instead, deal with difficulties with flexibility and wisdom, learning how to lessen their weight until you become able to overcome them.
The more you strengthen your heart with remembrance (dhikr) and the Qur’an, and the more you nurture trust in Allah and good expectations of Him, the firmer you will stand against its whispers and the weaker its tricks will become.
Patience on this journey is the strongest weapon, for it grants you the ability to endure until trials transform into strength, and weakness turns into determination. You may begin your path feeling fragile and broken, but with every remembrance and supplication, and with every trial you overcome by Allah’s grace, your resolve will grow stronger and your heart will be fortified—until it becomes an impregnable fortress that neither the demon of envy nor anything else can penetrate.
